Antwayn Green

Student Success Coach, Livingstone College

Native of Sumter, SC

Industry: Higher Education

Antwayn Green found “a small community with big dreams” when he moved to Salisbury-Rowan two years ago after accepting a position in the admissions office at Catawba College. He has found the area similar in size to his hometown of Sumter, SC, and he prefer the slower pace here to Atlanta, where he also worked in higher education.

“If you are looking for somewhere innovative and modern, this is the place,” he says. “I really appreciate this place. And it’s 40 minutes to Charlotte or Greensboro. You can’t beat that.”

His favorite restaurant is the Caribbean Island Café because it is the only authentic Jamaican restaurant in the area. “I’ve become like a family member. They know me and know what I want to eat. I like the customer service and the relationship that I have built.”

His favorite outdoor space is Bell Tower Green Park where he takes his three dogs, Texas, Ivey, and Lola. “I take walks there. There are several places to relax and I appreciate the historic buildings in the area.”

His favorite festival is the big Cheerwine Festival in Salisbury, honoring the origins of the Salisbury-based cola. When he first moved here everyone talked about it and he found their praise to be on the mark.

In addition to his list of favorites, he would advise first-time visitors to Salisbury-Rowan to eat at the Salty Caper and City Tavern restaurants and take a walk at the Fred Stanback Jr. Ecological at Catawba College.

Antwayn is currently a Student Success coach at Livingstone College. He went into higher education after graduating from Claflin University in Orangeburg, SC, and earning a master’s degree in higher education and administration at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA.

He identifies with the Rowan County slogan, “Be an Original.” To him, it means “to be who God created you to be.”
