Carla Wilson

Sales Operation Supervisor, Hexagon Agility
Native of Rowan County

Industry: Manufacturer of Alternative Fuels

As a young girl, Carla Wilson and her family moved to Rowan County so her parents could open a business in downtown Salisbury. Years later, Carla is still living, working, and thriving here.

“It feels like home, everything about it. Everyone is always warm and welcoming. They treat you like you’ve always lived here,” Carla says. Her parents, Bruce and Jackie Wilson, brought her here in the late 90s to open the Fine Frame Gallery in downtown Salisbury. Since she has been here for most of her life, Carla has seen the vast amount of growth and changes in Rowan County and describes Salisbury as “becoming a suburb but maintaining that original charm.”

Opportunities abound in Rowan County, including higher education. Carla is a graduate of Catawba College. When her son, Mason, started Kindergarten, she knew it was time for her to complete her education as well. She enrolled in Catawba’s School of Evening and Graduate Studies. Together, her and Mason formed a “straight A club” where they motivated each other to excel in their studies. Carla did indeed graduate with straight As, won the Barbara Andrews Award, and was inducted into the honor society. Two weeks after her graduation, her daughter, Laryn, was born.

Carla also excels in her professional life. She works for Hexagon Agility in Salisbury as the Sales Operation Supervisor where she runs the internal sales team. Hexagon Agility is a leading global provider of clean fuel solutions for commercial vehicles and gas transportation solutions.  Products offered include (renewable) natural gas storage and distribution systems, Type 4 composite natural gas cylinders, and (renewable) natural gas vehicle fuel systems. These products transport clean gaseous fuels and enable customers to reduce emissions while saving operating costs. Carla considers herself creative, driven, and supportive and seems to enjoy her time spent in Rowan County. One of the draws is that “there’s a niche for everyone. If you like art, music, design, outdoors, it doesn’t matter what your hobbies are, there’s a place for everyone.” Carla loves bringing her kids to Bell Tower Green so they can play in the water feature, and she enjoys hearing the live music on the stage.

Carla believes that being a Rowan County original means “being unapologetically yourself. Rowan County wouldn’t feel like home if not for each and every one of us.”
