Sherri Hill

Area Consultant, Juvenile Crime Prevention Council, Division of Juvenile Justice, State of North Carolina

Native of Rowan County

Industry: Government

Sherri Hill wants people to know that Rowan County has a lot of heart with room for growth and change.

A native of Rowan County and graduate of North Rowan High School and Catawba College, Sherri worked as a marriage and family counselor in Davidson County, after receiving her master’s degree online from Capella University. She came back to her native Rowan a year ago as a consultant for the state’s Juvenile Crime Prevention Council.

Her office is on Innes Street downtown, and she has been surprised at the diversity of products available in local Downtown Salisbury shops. She has found shops that cater to young audiences in their 30s and make her feel welcome. Downtown Friday Night events, especially her favorite — Wine About Winter — got her inside shops and showed her what was available locally.

Another favorite downtown spot, the new Bell Tower Green Park, is great for a quick walk during lunch hours. “It’s centrally located, very open and family friendly,” she says. “I’ve been to several concerts there. It offers options for entertainment, and I hope for more nightlife for that space.”

‘Feeling Safe’

Salisbury Community Park & Athletic Complex on Hurley School Road is another favorite outdoor space. She likes to go there for relaxation in a sunny space and says that she always feels safe. The park offers walking and biking trails, ballfields, and a lake for fishing.

Los Arcos on Klumac Road is her favorite restaurant because of its variety and quick service. In addition to Mexican food, the restaurant serves crab legs, one of Sherri’s seafood favorites.

She finds Rowan County friendly and family oriented, and she enjoys close relationships with her mom, Athea Hill, a nurse, and big brother Howard Hill. She loves being “a doggie mom” to Meiko and Buttons.

She has volunteered with Rowan Helping Ministries and serves with Communities in

Schools in Davidson County. She is a member of the Rowan Young Professionals and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. “I am dedicated to being a contributing member in Rowan County,” she says.

When friends come to visit, she steers them to Salisbury’s favorite cola, Cheerwine, which has its roots here and is part of what makes the community unique.

It fits in well with the Rowan County slogan, Be an Original.™

“Rowan County has a lot of history that makes it unique, compared to surrounding counties,” Sherri says. “Additionally, it has produced talented individuals. The opportunity to create ‘new’ is here, if young adults utilize their talents and resources.”
