Brittany Dorn

Quality Manager, Hexagon Agility

Native of Rowan County

Industry: Manufacturer of Alternative Fuels

Brittany Dorn found the best of all possible worlds when she returned to her native Rowan County after college at East Carolina University and two years of working in her field while living in eastern North Carolina.

She wanted to be close to family while still having a rewarding and fulfilling career. She found that job at Hexagon Agility, getting in on the ground floor when the company opened its Salisbury location eight years ago.

“At Hexagon Agility, employees are allowed to put our mark on the process,” she says. “We have the ability to implement changes and to be creative. A lot of manufacturers are very structured which sometimes makes it difficult to change, but at Hexagon Agility we continuously look for ways to improve the process.”

It’s important to her to work for an environmentally friendly company. Hexagon Agility produces a green product, building natural gas fuel systems in place of diesel fuel in trucks for companies such as Amazon, Waste Management, and Frito Lay.

She likes the way Hexagon Agility takes care of its employees. “They do what’s right for the people who work here,” she says.

Brittany has a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a Concentration in Industrial Engineering. She grew up in Salisbury, attended South Rowan High School, has lived in western Rowan County, and now lives in the eastern Rowan area. She knows Rowan County well. “I wanted to come home to be with family — my parents, brother, and grandparents. Settling in reminded me how much I missed and love the small-town feel of Salisbury. My husband Mike and I love country living while still being a short drive away from attractions, shopping, and restaurants. It’s truly the perfect balance. Rowan County is a great place to raise a family with plenty of fun activities for everyone. We get to experience all four seasons (without too much snow), which I really love.”

She has a 6-year-old daughter, Baylor, who dances on the competitive team at Salisbury Dance Academy. “I love being a part of the Salisbury Dance Academy family. The SDA staff invests so much of themselves into each, and every member of the team, and they are very active in the community,” she says.

The dance studio is a short walk from Bell Tower Green, Brittany’s favorite outdoor space in Rowan County. Her family enjoys going there for walks and Baylor loves the playground area.

Her favorite restaurant is Sweet Meadows Café of Salisbury. “I like the overall feel and relaxing vibe of the restaurant. The people there make you feel welcome, and the food is delicious. She has lots of fond memories of birthday party dinners with family and friends,” she says.

Busker’s Bash, a celebration of local talent performing on streets in front of Salisbury businesses, is her favorite Rowan County event. “I personally like to support local, and I meet lots of local artists and musicians,” she says.

“I really enjoy attending the many events that are hosted in downtown Salisbury,” she says. She also appreciates the county’s central location. “I’m just a short drive to the beach or mountains. I also have family in Georgia and West Virginia, so I can easily make a quick weekend trip to visit.”

She would advise a newcomer to the county to spend time in downtown Salisbury before doing anything else. “There’s the park, places to shop, wonderful restaurants and cool bars with special events and activities scheduled all year round,” she says. “You can’t go wrong. You can always find fun in downtown Salisbury.”

To Brittany, the county’s “Be an Original” brand is about having an entrepreneurial spirit.

“It’s something that I can apply as the Quality Manager at Hexagon Agility,” she says. “I’m so blessed to be part of a company that is truly making a positive impact on the environment. I take pride in knowing that I’ve helped to develop the many processes that are in place to ensure our customers receive CNG fuel systems with exceptional quality. I’m absolutely thrilled that Hexagon Agility selected Rowan County eight years ago when they built our plant from the ground up! They’ve given me every opportunity to be an original.”
