Heather Haaland
Development Manager
Native of Indianapolis, IN
Industry: Non-Profit
For Heather Haaland, Rowan County isn’t just where she lives, it’s where she’s built a life rooted in purpose, family, and community.
Originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, Heather and her husband made the move to Rowan County in 2011 in search of something a little different. What they found was exactly what they were looking for: space to grow, a peaceful setting, and a strong sense of community. Today, they live between Faith and Rockwell on 10 acres, a place Heather describes as the perfect blend of country living and convenience, with everything they need just a short drive away.
Now a Development Manager at Nazareth Child & Family Connection, Heather plays a key role in supporting an organization dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children and families. What stands out most to her about her workplace is the shared passion among her team.
“There’s a genuine sense of purpose in the work,” she says. “It’s rewarding to be part of a culture where people care deeply about each other and the individuals we serve.”
That same passion extends beyond her workplace and into the broader Rowan community. Through planning and coordinating events like the Nazareth Fun Fest, one of her favorite local traditions, Heather has found meaningful ways to connect with others while supporting a mission she believes in.
She also stays actively involved by attending Chamber events and building relationships with fellow community members and partners, all with the goal of helping Rowan County continue to thrive.
When she’s not working, you’ll likely find her spending time outdoors at the East Rowan YMCA watching her boys play flag football or walking the trails with her husband.
For Heather, Rowan County stands out for its balance.
“It has that small-town vibe where you’ll always know a friendly face,” she says, “but it’s not overwhelming like a big city.”
That sense of familiarity, paired with opportunity, is what makes Rowan County such a special place to call home — especially for families.
When asked what it means to “be an original” here, Heather’s answer reflects both pride and purpose.
“It’s about embracing what makes our community unique while contributing in a way that leaves your own positive mark,” she says. “Showing up authentically, finding ways to serve others, and helping shape what comes next.”
And if there’s one thing she wants others to know?
“It’s a great place to raise a family — full of opportunities and the perfect size community.”
For Heather, that’s exactly what Rowan County has been, not just a place to live, but a place to grow, serve, and make a lasting impact.
