Largest Community Barn Quilt in the U.S.

This photo op stop is the gem of the Rowan County barn quilt trail. As the largest community barn quilt in the United States, it has become quite the attention getter in the western part of the county. If you visit on a Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. you can catch their weekly cruise-ins and on every Saturday and on summer Sunday nights, you can partake or watch their Bluegrass Musician Jam from 5 to 8 p.m. The store also hosts Community Ice Cream Socials on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sunday nights in the summer and fall. Crossroads: Past into Present Mural

One of Salisbury and Rowan County’s most famous attractions. This mural painted by Salisbury native, Cynvia Arthur Rankin, features an original look at turn-of-the-century Downtown Salisbury. There are over 100 local citizens dressed in period costumes represented in the mural. The mural has appeared nationally on NBC and featured numerous times in area newspapers, national publications, magazines and brochures.

 

On Cloud Nine with the Angel Wings

This angelic coffee shop has several beautiful angel wings painted on the side of their buildling which were painted by Linda Gibson of McGrady, North Carolina. It’s a charming spot to grab a fresh cup o’ Joe and reflect on your day. The Holy Grind has a prayer group every Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

 

Walk the Rails*

*Now, please do not “actually” walk the railroad tracks for safety reasons. But snapping a photo near the railroad tracks is a popular trend for weddings, senior photos, train enthusiasts, or just for fun! Always be mindful of possibe passing trains. You can often not hear the trains on the track so remember to always look AND listen in both directions. If taking a photo near the tracks in downtown Salisbury, stop by and visit the Historic Salisbury Station which was a site for Hollywood movie ‘Leatherheads’ starring George Clooney, Renee Zellweger, and John Krasinski.

Soak Up the History

Dr. Joseph Hall House

Built in 1820 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Dr. Josephus Hall House was originally constructed as classrooms for the Salisbury Female Academy (1820-1825). The house was purchased in 1972 by Historic Salisbury Foundation and today serves as a museum open the the public. Visit during the holiday season and tour the house when it is decked to the hilt with festive decor.

Take a Refreshing Dip

Known locally as “The Bullhole”, this impressive stone water dam features a sandy beach and good fishing in spring and fall. Bring your swimming suit and enjoy an afternoon dip. Take precaution as there is no lifeguard and the granite bedrock bottom can often be slippery due to moss growing. There are nearby wooded trails for hiking and picnic tables and benches. Restrooms are located near the main parking area.
