Macy Mitchell
Benefits Specialist, Lutheran Services Carolinas
Native of Central Florida
Industry: Non-Profit
When Macy Mitchell graduated from college and began searching for her next step, she never imagined that a move from Central Florida to Rowan County would become the start of a lifelong home. “When I graduated college, my boyfriend at the time—now my husband—was living and working in the area,” she says. “I moved here to find a job after college and started working in Salisbury. Over the past 11 years, we’ve lived and worked here, bought two homes, and now our kids go to school here. It’s truly home.”
Over the past seven years, Macy has held three different roles within Lutheran Services Carolinas (LSC), a faith-based health and human services organization serving children, families, and seniors in the Carolinas. She loves that her work allows her to be part of something that genuinely impacts people’s lives. “Our workplace culture is community-oriented, supportive, and mission-driven,” Macy says. “I’m proud to work for an organization that serves others in so many ways.”
Her commitment to service extends well beyond her career. Macy serves on the Board of Directors for Partners in Learning, a local nonprofit providing inclusive early education and family support. She also encourages others to support community programs like Rowan Helping Ministries, which she describes as “an awesome resource for our community.”
Macy and her husband are raising their two children in Salisbury, where they enjoy the balance of small-town connection and big opportunity. “At first, we lived here because it was convenient for our jobs,” she says, “but over time it has grown to be our home. It still has that small community feel, but also has a lot to offer for us as a young family.” Participating in Leadership Rowan (Class 32) was an impactful experience that really helped put into perspective just how much this “small town” has to offer.
When the Mitchells aren’t working or volunteering, you can find them spending time outdoors at Ellis Park or at different sports programs like Rowan Little League or Halls Gym, or enjoying local favorites like The Palms, and Una Mas. Their family loves attending the Christmas parades and the Touch a Truck event each year.
Macy believes Rowan County’s greatest strength is its balance and sense of pride. “I feel like the county as a whole has all the pieces and parts to make it a great community to raise a family,” she says. “I want my children to grow up one day and be proud of where they are from.”
To Macy, being a Rowan Original means being an active part of what makes the community thrive. “I wasn’t born here,” she says, “but Rowan County has become home. We all have different paths that bring us into a community—but however we get here, it’s important that we’re an active part of making it better.”
