Native of Long Beach, CA
Industry: Manufacturing
About ten years ago, Ryan Macaulay was given the opportunity with Hexagon Agility to move across the country to Rowan County from Long Beach, California. According to their website, Hexagon Agility is a leading global provider of clean fuel solutions for commercial gas vehicles and gas transportation solutions. Macaulay works in the Fleet Support Division as the Director of Service Parts and Installation Operations. He has seen a lot of manufacturing companies come to the area since he has been here and sees the tremendous value in Rowan County having “land to offer these MFG companies so they can build up new infrastructure to accommodate the warehouses and other jobs.”
Over the past decade, Macaulay and his family have settled well into Rowan County life. They enjoy dining out at local restaurants like Sabaidee, City Tavern, Massimo’s Sandwiches, and La Cava. Another family-friendly Rowan County favorite is Dan Nicholas Park, which features a campground, walking trails, playgrounds, miniature golf, picnic areas, gem mining, a 10-acre fishing lake, an aquarium, nature center, and animal habitats. Macaulay understands that a benefit of Rowan County is that there is plenty of room for manufacturing businesses to grow while also room for “maintain plenty of greenery and [keeping] the small town feel that everyone has come to love.”
Macaulay says he makes a habit of engaging with the surrounding community by establishing a relationship with his team members and showing up to support them in their personal lives. One thing he greatly appreciates is that the county is “putting more focus on family and community with events like the Cheerwine Festival.” The annual festival held in downtown Salisbury every May is a big draw for tourists, residents, and vendor who want to celebrate Cheerwine’s over a century long history with Salisbury.
To Macaulay, who crossed the entire country just to work in Rowan County, the best feature of our area might be the people. It is a great place to raise a family with “small, friendly communities.” He has some advice for those who want to be an original in Rowan County. He says “don’t be a follower, do your own thing and don’t let the crowd direct you to something you don’t want to do.”
