Let’s Explore South Rowan County
Heading south out of Downtown Salisbury you are heading towards a very busy area of our county! The first town that we reach is the Town of China Grove.
Town of China Grove
Welcome to the Town of China Grove located just a quick 16 minutes from Salisbury. There is so much going on there! Coming up soon is Farmer’s Day on July 17 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Farmer’s Day is a huge celebration that started to celebrate the farmers in the community and over the years it has grown and grown. Make your plans to attend it this year!
Do you like to look at cars from the past? CruisIN the Grove happens from 1 – 5 p.m. once a month on Main Street. The next dates to save are July 18, August 20, and October 15.
Did you know about China Grove Farmers Market? It is located at the China Grove Roller Mill on Fridays from 4 – 6 p.m. through September.
There is also a new brewery opening in July downtown called Grove Cartel Brewery. Be sure to see the beautiful artwork on the outside of the building!
Town of Landis
As you continue to travel south, your next stop is the Town of Landis. The Town of Landis also has a Landis Cruise-In and their first one is Friday, July 1 from 6 – 9 p.m. This will not only include great cars to walk around and look at, but they also planned to have live music with The Band of Oz along with vendors such as What-A-Burger, Holy Cookie Dough, Papa Robb’s, New Sarum Brewing Company, and Beaver Concessions! Sounds like a great way to spend a Friday night!
Landis also has a Farmers Market on Tuesdays from 4 – 7 p.m. on West Rice Street located right beside the Landis pool.
Lake Corriher Wilderness Park is a great place to hike, fish, kayak, or play a game of disc golf. You can even rent a house to spend the night at the park.
The City of Kannapolis
Just a little further south and you run straight into Kannapolis which is in both Rowan and Cabarrus Counties. Kannapolis has had a huge surge in growth over the last several years with a great downtown area that includes the Cannon Ballers stadium. Food and beverage options are galore! Take time to explore all that is happening in the City of Kannapolis.
Be sure to check out Village Park and Veterans Park while you are in Kannapolis. They are always active with movie nights and live music.
Surrounding Attractions
While there are lots of things to do in the towns that make up the Southern end of Rowan County, there are also several things to look out for outside of these towns.
One of the fun things to check out is the Cherry Treesort located at 1920 Flat Rock Road outside of China Grove. Currently, there are 10 houses on the property with another large house coming sometime in July. The houses range in size to sleep just a few or up to 8 people comfortably. They also have a Hobbit House. Book a weekend at the Treesort and explore all that Rowan has to offer.
Sloan Park is in the Millbridge Community and offers a tree walking trail. Recently the park has been working to renovate the Millhouse Water Wheel located on the property that used to mill corn for corn meal. It was a work in progress, but the end results are so worth it.
In the same community, you can find the Millbridge Speedway where you can find kids and adults racing box cars. You will be right in the pit area when walking in so keep your eyes open for NASCAR drivers and their kids racing. It’s a lot of fun! Just remember it is a dirt track and dress accordingly!
In the same area, Patterson Farm Market & Tours, Inc. is located at 10390 Caldwell Rd, Mount Ulla. Patterson Farm always has a lot of fun things going on. Whether it is a Farm Hand Summer Fun Camp or picking strawberries in their beautiful fields. Their market will supply your family with plenty of fresh goodies and don’t even get me started on their yummy ice cream sundaes!
One of my personal favorites is in Enochville and that is Douglas Vineyards. This vineyard is located on the owner’s homestead and includes some of the best wines that South Rowan has to offer where the grapes grow happily in their fields. Douglas hosts a lot of events at their property including music and food trucks. Be sure to enjoy their tasting room and take a bottle outside and sit in one of several different locations. Don’t be surprised if you roll up to the vineyard and a wedding or a baby shower is going on as well. They are open Friday-Saturday 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sundays 1 – 5 p.m.
Visiting and exploring South Rowan is a great idea to work into any vacation plans you may have in our area in the state of North Carolina. Visit the websites below and go back and look at some of the previous blogs I have written about the above-mentioned areas. There is always something fun happening in Rowan County!
