Trevor McGregor

Application Engineer, Integro Technologies

Native of Rome, NY

Industry: Engineering Services

Trevor McGregor moved to Rowan County three years ago from Buffalo, NY, for a warmer climate and affordable housing. He found his house in Rockwell in eastern Rowan, and he found an engineering job at Integro Technologies.

He also found plenty of outdoor space for motorcycle riding and other outdoor sports. He found hiking trails at Dan Nicholas Park, and the park has become one of his favorite outdoor spaces. He and his girlfriend also find it easy to meet people and make friends here.

“I was trying to buy a house in the greater Buffalo area for over a year,” he recalls. “Every offer I put in on a house kept getting outbid well above the listing prices by other buyers. I put in offers on about 15 houses and every single one, I got outbid.

“After dealing with the frustration of not being able to purchase a home, my girlfriend and I decided to start looking elsewhere to live — somewhere where the taxes were lower and the weather was warmer. After doing some research and talking with friends, we knew we wanted to move to a place that had both those things, lots of places with things to do, and also somewhere that wasn’t too far away from home.” He calls his relocation to Rowan County “the perfect fit for us.”

The cost of living in Rowan County is 10 percent lower than the national average. In particular, housing is considerably more affordable (20 percent).

Rural Areas

Trevor loves the Rowan County combination of rural areas and small cities. “There are a lot of rural areas that have things to do, as well as small cities with great restaurants and local businesses,” he says. “I enjoy giving back to the economy of Rowan County by shopping at local businesses like Abigail’s bakery, City Tavern, Rowan Bolt & Supply and BRM Nails.”

Christo’s is his favorite restaurant because the food. “It’s good Italian food, very similar to where I used to live in New York,” he says.

High Rock Lake with its easy accessibility and boating is another favorite outdoor space.

The Faith Fourth of July Celebration with its big fireworks display on the holiday is his favorite event.

He buys into the idea of Rowan County’s Be an original™ identity, calling Salisbury-Rowan “a community of unique qualities that attract others.

“There is a lot of potential here in this county, both financial and well-being. It holds some of the most beautiful views in North Carolina.”
