Honoring Those Who Served: West Rowan Veteran’s Coffee Gathering Connects Community

Each month, local veterans gather for fellowship, coffee, and conversation at Christ Episcopal Church in Cleveland, North Carolina. The West Rowan Veteran’s Coffee takes place on the first Thursday of each month from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in Thompson Parish Hall on the Christ Episcopal Church campus (3430 Old U.S. Highway 70, Cleveland, NC).

Veterans of all ages and military branches are invited to join in a welcoming space for good coffee, light snacks, and meaningful connection with fellow service members and community members.

“On behalf of the centuries of families served by Christ Episcopal Church in Cleveland, it is our honor to host the monthly West Rowan County Veteran Coffees,” said Julie Hunter Hall of Christ Episcopal Church. “We strive to provide a consistent, peaceful space for social connection, community building, and access to support services for veterans and their families.”

The gatherings, she shared, are designed to foster camaraderie through shared experiences in a relaxed setting—helping to combat isolation and aid in the transition to civilian life.

For nearly 232 years, Christ Episcopal Church has served as a cornerstone of the West Rowan community. Now, through this ongoing event, the church is extending that legacy to the region’s veteran population.

Each month’s gathering also provides opportunities for community members to show their support. In October, for example, West Rowan High School Culinary Students, led by Melinda Burns, prepared a delicious breakfast buffet for attending veterans. The event also featured a presentation from the National Quilts of Valor Foundation, whose mission is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.

“We are honored to serve our community and veterans,” added Hall. “Each gathering is a reminder of the strength, sacrifice, and unity that define our community here in West Rowan.”

The West Rowan Veteran’s Coffee is open to all veterans, service members, and supporters. For more information, contact Arthur Brown at 704-278-9277.
