Nick & Samantha Sanchez

Custom Cabinets | GLR Kitchen and Bath Design

Nick: Native of Colorado
Samantha: Native of Rowan County

Industry: Construction

Samantha Sanchez is a wife, mother, and entrepreneur who was born in Rowan County, went to middle and high school in nearby Cabarrus County, and found her way back home as an adult. She received her B.A. in Sociology at UNC-Asheville, then moved to Colorado where she met her husband, Nick. They have owned GLR Kitchen and Bath since 2005. In 2019, they moved back to Rowan County to be close to family. Sanchez says she was particularly impressed with how much the area had grown. Shortly after their return, they bought a cabinet shop in Kannapolis, which made GLR Kitchen and Bath Design a turnkey remodeling business.

As people who have seen life outside of Rowan County, the Sanchezes want people to know that “Rowan County is not dead and is growing every year. There are plenty of companies manufacturing and thriving [here].” They can easily measure the temperature of business in the county since they own a custom cabinetry construction business. A part of the joy of owning a small, local business is “being able to serve [the] community.”

What makes GLR unique? According to Nick, “we are a company that believes in value. We provide one-and-done remodels that will last a lifetime in this world of disposability we now live in. We are here to make our clients’ lives easier by taking care of the whole process.” Being a part of Rowan County’s rich history is important to Sanchez. The shop has been in the same location since 1935 and “we have no plans to take it from there. Our history is rooted here and we believe that’s why it is still around.” They are contributing to the future of the area because their company is “building products that are quality and will have longevity.”

There are other local businesses that the couple regularly supports such as Libby’s Pit Stop and The Smoke Pit. Dan Nicholas Park is their favorite outdoor space that Rowan County has to offer and they love attending the annual Cheerwine Festival. Samantha has seen how Rowan County has grown over the years and thinks that the county is starting to “remodel [itself].” She wants others to see the beauty of our county. Rowan County is like nowhere else because there are “lovely historic elements here.”

For the Sanchezes, being an original means “standing for something that others may think isn’t important or useful anymore. Following your dreams despite all the odds. Standing up for what you believe in.”
