The Rowan-Salisbury School System (RSS) is pleased to announce that Ms. Franchesca Gantt has been named the next principal of Salisbury High School (SHS). Gantt was approved by the Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education at a Special Called Meeting on Friday, December 19, 2025. A veteran North Carolina educator and experienced principal, Gantt brings a record of raising student achievement, strengthening school culture, and building meaningful community partnerships to Salisbury High.

Gantt currently serves as principal of Konnoak Middle School in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, a role she has held since 2022. Under her leadership, Konnoak achieved its highest student achievement outcomes in more than 12 years and became the only middle school in the district with all “green” performance data after previously being the lowest-performing middle school.

“My vision [for Salisbury High School] is to serve as a relentless advocate and organizer for our scholars and our school community. I see myself as a connector, bringing together students, staff, families, and community partners around a shared vision for success,” Gantt said.

Prior to her work in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, she served as principal in both Caswell County Schools and Camden County Schools. Gantt holds an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Educational Leadership and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership, both from Gardner-Webb University. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Textile Science from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2001.

Gantt recognizes Salisbury High as “a place rich in tradition and pride, while also standing at an exciting crossroads of innovation and opportunity. I am deeply committed to honoring and protecting the school’s history while also leading it forward in ways that allow scholars to envision their future selves.”

Seeking to prepare students for future college and career options, Gantt plans to honor student voice and interests, providing access to innovative learning opportunities that allow students to explore future possibilities during high school.

“Salisbury High School is already thriving, and I see my role as an opportunity to lead that investment, to pour into the school and community, and to ensure that Salisbury High School continues to be a place of excellence, opportunity, and possibility for all.”

Leadership, for Gantt, is “a collaborative effort, one that requires listening, learning, and working collectively to chart meaningful pathways for every scholar.” She is “equally committed to supporting and empowering staff as we work together to grow scholars academically, socially, and emotionally.”

RSS superintendent Dr. Kelly W. Withers is confident in Gantt’s ability to continue positive growth for the students and staff at Salisbury High.

“Ms. Gantt is a proven instructional leader who knows how to improve outcomes for students while building a positive, inclusive school culture,” said Superintendent Dr. Kelly W. Withers. “Her track record of raising achievement, providing innovative opportunities, creating authentic learning experiences, and fostering a strong sense of belonging for every scholar aligns with our vision for Salisbury High School’s future, and we are excited to welcome her to RSS.”

Gantt expressed her enthusiasm for starting her principalship at SHS.

“I am truly honored and excited to step into this role. I am eager to learn from the incredible Salisbury High School community and to work collectively to chart a path toward continued success. This opportunity brings me immense joy, and I am ready to lead, serve, and grow alongside this outstanding school and community.”
