Town of Granite Quarry Selected by Parks and Recreation Authority as Recipient of a 2024 PARTF Grant
The Town of Granite Quarry was selected by the Parks and Recreation Authority as a recipient of a 2024 PARTF grant. The Town of Granite Quarry completed its site-specific Civic Park master plan earlier in the year. This process was completed by Stewart Engineering, an architectural firm based in Raleigh. Site needs were assessed, and public feedback gained through various public input sessions and electronic surveys. At the conclusion, the Granite Quarry Town Council voted to accept the final concept and move forward with the Civic Park Master Plan. The Granite Civic Park was established in 1950 and has been maintained by town staff and volunteers for over 74 years. The $500,000 PARTF grant is a match to the $500,000 set forth by the Granite Quarry Town Council in the town’s transformational fund. These renovations will bring updated shelter and restroom facilities, new playground equipment, updated tennis/pickleball courts, new splashpad, and updated basketball court.
Town Manager Jason Hord states, “This is truly an exciting time for Granite Quarry”. The master plan process has been a lengthy process, but the town appreciates citizen feedback during public input sessions and electronic surveys. “We are very excited to get started on the much-needed renovation and upgrade to our beloved Granite Civic Park” says Hord. Currently, the town is working on new ADA parking and a parking lot adjacent to the park to allow for overflow parking, especially during Granite Fest. This is the town’s signature event, and it’s always held the third weekend in October at Granite Civic Park.
“The investment by PARTF in Granite Civic Park and the Town of Granite Quarry is extraordinary,” says Brittany H Barnhardt, Mayor of Granite Quarry. “I could not be more appreciative of this announcement and what this will do for the community of Granite Quarry and Rowan County! We will be seeking more partners along the way to include businesses, agencies, and private community members to collaborate and ultimately make the dream of the entire $5 million park renovation a reality!”
Governor Roy Cooper announced that 9.5 million was awarded to local communities through PARTF. Granite Quarry was one of 40 statewide applications for the PARTF grant and of those only 22 were funded.
