Native of Rowan County, NC

Industry: Agriculture

If you are a fan of locally grown strawberries, you may recognize that Rowan County native, Victoria Patterson Chrismon, has spent her life serving Rowan and the surrounding areas. Patterson Farm, Inc is a widely popular agritourism institution located in Mt. Ulla that has become synonymous with strawberries, pumpkin patches, and family fun.

“Growing up on the farm felt normal” but Chrismon recognizes that it was a unique experience where she was able to learn the value of hard work and responsibility. Her fondest memory was when the school bus dropped her off at the market so she could “help” run the cash register and have the employees sneak her some Birthday Cake ice cream.

Chrismon did not picture herself working at the farm though as a future career path. She went off to college at NC State University in Raleigh but ultimately decided to come back and plant her roots here in Rowan County because of “the people and small-town atmosphere that we have [here]…I love the sense of community.” Now she and her husband live at the farm and she represents the fifth generation of Patterson working the land. A huge draw of Rowan County is the rural farmland and the proximity to both small towns and metropolitan areas. Chrismon says, “You can truly have the best of both worlds and get to live in the county while being just a quick drive to bigger surrounding cities.”

Agritourism work does keep Chrismon busy. However, when she is not working as the Events Manager for the Market and Tours branch and as the Shipping Manager of Patterson Farm Inc., she is actively engaged in the Rowan County community through her involvement with the Rowan County Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers and Women’s Committees and the Rowan Young Professionals group. Her church, Thyatira Presbyterian Church, also keeps her busy with various community service opportunities.

Getting involved in the local community is vital to someone’s success in Rowan County and Chrismon fully understands that. “Regardless of if you are a Rowan County native or new to the area, I would encourage you to get involved in your community. This is a wonderful way to make connections with like-minded people and make a difference in your community. There are so many opportunities to get involved, depending on your interests and passions!”

You may see her at other Rowan County hotspots like Willowbrook Grounds (try The Patterson – Victoria’s go-to order!), Gary’s BBQ, China Grove Family House, Fusion Mexican Grill, Go Burrito, Grove Cartel/Meadows, or Sabaidee! “There are so many great places to eat in Rowan.”

To ‘Be An Original’ in Rowan County, Chrismon believes that it means “we have something for everyone! You can be true to yourself and be greeted with true southern hospitality. There are so many unique opportunities and experiences for everyone, from local shopping and dining, outdoor experiences, festivals, arts and events, and more. You’ll be sure to find something you love here in Rowan!”
