Historic Gold Hill
I recently wrote a blog about the Eastern part of Rowan County. In that blog, East Rowan County…Rich in History – Live Original (yourrowan.com) I spoke about Historic Gold Hill. You can also find accommodation there for a vacation. “A Simpler Time” is a two-bedroom apartment that is located above the 1906 General Store. You will have plenty of privacy and the wonderful Gold Hill Village where you can shop and dine. Visit at A Simpler Time – Historic Gold Hill to start your next vacation!
Kannapolis
Another area close to Salisbury is the beautiful Kannapolis area. My searches took me to either Airbnb or Booking.com. There are some adorable homes that are for rent such as Millie the Mill House which are close to their downtown area where you can shop and dine as well as catch a ballgame depending on the time of the year! Be sure to check them out as they may also fulfill your needs during a visit.
Bed and Breakfast Stays
If a bed and breakfast is more your style, then let me make a few suggestions for you.
“Across the Pond Bed and Breakfast” is a historic home located at 324 North Fulton Street, Salisbury. Rooms in this Colonial Revival-Style Home built in 1919 for Dr. Ernest Stokes range from $140-$160 a night. Your stay includes beautiful accommodations showcased in reminders of its historic value to our community, a full English Breakfast, and an evening reception. The owners, Andrew and Mary Walker, both are from Northern England and came to the US in 1991. Should you be arriving by train at our lovely Historic Depot you can expect to be picked up in style in the owner’s Jaguar. Everyone raves over their stay at this beautiful bed and breakfast. For more information and reservations visit www.acrossthepondbandb.com.
“Turn of the Century Bed and Breakfast” is located at 529 South Fulton Street, Salisbury. This beautiful Victorian home was built in 1905 as a residence and was known as the Heilig-Dees home. They have hosted guests since 1999 following an extensive renovation. The Heilig-Dees home was purchased in 1997 by Karen Windate of Georgia with this being the second Victoria home that she has renovated. Reviews let you know that you will be well cared for during your visit. This home offers an array of rooms to suit any needs and prices range from $140-$175 a night. During your visit you will be invited to enjoy a full gourmet breakfast in the formal dining room, and if you like enjoy coffee and/or tea on their beautiful front porch. Visits and reservations can be made at www.turnofthecenturybb.com.
Both above-mentioned bed and breakfast locations are close to Downtown Salisbury for shopping, dining, and Bell Tower Green Park. All of these are within walking distance of these locations.
High Rock Lake
Another great place to find a relaxing stay is High Rock Lake. Both Rowan and Davidson Counties share this beautiful lake. This past Spring, I taught a private yoga class to some out-of-town and out-of-state visitors for a Bride’s weekend. They found their house on Airbnb and doing the class with the view of the lake around us was both beautiful and relaxing. Recently another blogger with Your Rowan, Joyce Caron-Mercier, wrote a blog about Airbnb’s on High Rock. Enjoy reading it here! Airbnb On the Lake – Live Original (yourrowan.com).
In Your Search
I found as I was looking for accommodations that most of these are listed on the Airbnb website. You may also have some luck on VRBO. I do want to caution you to search for Salisbury, North Carolina because there is also a Salisbury located in England. I landed on a few there and they are fabulous just like ours here at home.
